As a writer, revolutionary and philosopher, I have always stood up for what I believe in. I stood up for the rights of the landowners and non-landowners alike. I fought for democracy and I was proud to see at least some of my beliefs accepted in the end. Now, as a dying old man, I have moved to New York City to die peacefully. Some idiots, known as Silas Deane and Robert Morris screwed up my happy life as an American Revolutionary. After that I moved to France. I didn’t speak any French, but the people sounded friendly all the time. Soon, a revolution started. It was so exciting until someone named Max Robespierre imprisoned me. I tried to tell Robespierre that I was one of his American allies, but Robert Morris told him that I was British and that I should be executed. Luckily, I avoided execution, and I was freed after a kind American told the truth about my citizenship. After that, I moved back to America and wrote a book about the corruption in the churches and my religious beliefs. Here is a sample of a few of the opinions that I voiced in the book:
“I believe in one God, and no more; and I hope for happiness beyond this life.”
“I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.”
“All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.”
As America was a highly religious society, my views were not received well by the population, and only 6 people came to my funeral. I regret nothing about my life. I have always stuck to my beliefs, even when many people doubted me. I am a proud citizen of American, England, and France, and I will die a happy man.
